MockStop is a practice tool for commercial drivers rehearsing the roadside English check. This page says what we collect, what we do not, who else sees it and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version
- Your voice is never recorded. Speech becomes text on your own phone and only the text reaches us.
- You can practise without an account. No email, no phone number, nothing typed.
- We do not sell your data. There is no code path that could and no arrangement to describe.
- You can delete everything, immediately. Not on a schedule, and we tell you exactly what went.
Your voice
No recording of your voice is received, stored or transmitted by MockStop. Your phone's own speech recogniser turns what you said into text, and only that text is sent to us. We hold no audio, and there is no column in our database that could hold any.
Your phone's recogniser is Apple's or Google's, depending on your device, and it may send audio to them under their own privacy terms as part of how it works. That is between you and your phone's maker, and it happens whenever you dictate anything on it. We say so because the alternative — implying no audio leaves your phone at all — would not be true.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your answers, as text | To score them and show you what a better answer sounds like. This is free text, so it contains whatever you said |
| Scores and practice history | Your readiness, per-skill scores and which questions you were asked |
| A practice session identifier | Created before your first stop so your progress holds together. Not a device id and not an advertising id |
| Your email address | Only if you create an account or buy a plan. Used to sign you in and to send billing notices |
| Payment records | What you bought, when, and the identifiers our payment processor gives us. We never see or store your card number |
| Interface preferences | Your language, officer settings, and two optional questions about why you are here and how you rate your own English |
| How you found us | Labels carried in the link or QR poster you arrived through |
| Real Stop Reports | If you choose to tell us what you were asked at an actual stop: the state, the week, the topics, the outcome and an optional comment |
What we do not collect
No phone number, no name, no postal address. No location — the app asks for no location permission on either platform. No contacts, photos, files, calendar or browsing history. No advertising identifier, no device identifier, no biometric data. Nothing from your employer.
Practising with no signal
You can take a practice stop with no connection at all. It is graded on your phone and the session is kept on your phone until it can reach us, then sent and removed from the device. Until that happens it exists only on your phone, where it is covered by your phone's own security rather than ours. Deleting the app before it syncs discards it.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers to run MockStop. They act on our instructions and may only use what they receive to provide their service to us. We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising.
| Who | What they receive |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure | Hosting and the database. Everything above is stored here, in the United States (East US 2) |
| Azure Speech | The text of the officer's lines, so they can be spoken aloud. Never your answers and never your voice |
| Stripe | Payments. Your card details go to Stripe and never pass through us |
| Resend | Your email address, to deliver sign-in codes and billing notices |
| Azure Application Insights | Diagnostic telemetry — timings and errors — so we can tell when the service is broken |
We will also disclose information if the law requires it. If that ever happens we will tell you, unless we are forbidden from doing so.
If a school or carrier enrolled you
If you joined through an organization's licence, that organization can see your practice and your readiness. The app tells you this in the app, by name, before you practise again — you are never sponsored silently — and you can decline and keep practising on your own. They never see your email address, your phone number or anything you bought yourself.
What you can do
- Get a copy. Your account, profile, every stop with its transcripts, your readiness history, training, reports and purchases, as a file. It also names what is not included rather than quietly leaving it out.
- Delete it. Deletion happens immediately, not on a schedule, and the response tells you what was removed and how much.
- Practise without an account at all, and decide later whether to keep anything.
Both are in the app under Me → Account, and you can also delete your account from this website without the app at all. Two things deletion deliberately keeps:
- Real Stop Reports stay, with the link to you removed. They hold a state and a week and were never personal. Removing them would degrade the shared picture every other driver relies on.
- A record that you asked to be deleted stays. It holds no content — dates and counts only — so that the promise on this page is auditable.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. We do not currently expire practice history or transcripts automatically, and we would rather say so than publish a retention period the software does not enforce. Backups are kept by our hosting provider for a short period and are overwritten in the ordinary course; a deletion is applied to live data immediately and works through backups as they roll over.
Children
MockStop is for holders and students of a commercial driver's licence and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything from anybody under 18. If you believe a child has used MockStop, email support@mockstopapp.com and we will delete the account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to know what we hold, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and not to be discriminated against for asking. The export and delete controls in the app are the fastest route to all of them, and you can also email support@mockstopapp.com. We will not charge you and we will not ask you to create an account to make a request about data we hold without one.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Changes
If we change this policy we will change the date at the top. If a change materially affects what we collect or who sees it, we will tell you in the app rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
